Fuel prices forces sale :(

Post by wasp »

Well ive bought myself (downgraded) a pug 206sw 1.4hdi estate so it will have to be good bye to my trusty friend of 7 yrs or so.
simply to keep the cost of motoring down a bit with £35 /yr road tax, higher mpg, lower insurance.
but im going to lose (from my cutom!99, glxhdi est):
heated leather & electric seats ,door cards ect
CRUISE CONTROL omg....no ...cant live without that..best mod ever for sure
auto dimming rear view mirror
front floorwell lights
ROOM ...lol (spose i could keep the 406 and use it as a garage for the 206 as it would fit in the boot!)
comfort
rapier 5 chrome ring dials
elec Folding mirrors - my last triumph.....
fuel/trip comp
i think the only thing i didnt do was fit a electric sunroof, that was cos the wife wouldnt let me use the can opener....

Its going to be sad goodbye but thanks to all those who have helped//guided me on here!
i dont think ill be messing with the dreaded multiplexed 206
i may advertise 406 on here. its done cira250k but uses no oil water, allways serviced under 8k each time .ALLWAYS peugeot parts whatever its needed
another big bonus is that 3 yrs ago i had the veleo 4 pc clutch kit fitted so no DREADED 110 DMF!!!!1 TO WORRY ABOUT!
4 new tyres (goodyear) and down pipe flexi for last mot in dec.
Any ideas about value? im gonna maybe list it on ebay in a few weeks..a few weeks incase i cant live with the 206 and palm it over to the wife, and decide to keep it :!:

Pointless nonesense posted above. You're hardly gonna save any money changing from a 2.0 HDi to a 1.4 HDi.

That's hardly fair - he did state the road tax drops down to £35/year, and the insurance will also drop as the 206 1.4HDi is in a much lower group than the 406 2.0HDi is.

In terms of fuel saving, no idea how much difference it is; the engine is smaller and puts out less power (therefore requiring more fuel to produce the same amount of power), but the car is also gonna be lighter (reducing the amount of power needed to propel the car) - it could be a close call. Can't argue with the tax/insurance though.

Only get better miles if you drive like miss daisy. 206's are also poor, very very poor.
I owned a brand new 1, 03 plate for 3 yrs. I had 2.0 HDi 90bhp. I got more MPG in a 406 2.0 HDi 110bhp.

Hold on, do I take it you already have the 206? Why not drive it for a month and see how it goes?

I have a feeling the 206 is going to feel like cheap & nasty tat after driving the 406. How much lower is the insurance actually?

I sometimes feel that maybe I should be driving a smaller, more economical car but, giving the high standards of driving here, I actually feel safer in a car whose crumple zones don't feel like they're going to include my legs...

I remember years ago getting rid of a perfect 405GR 1.9petrol in favour of a 1.6injection 309GRi in a bid to save on fuel costs but had I done the 'math' and even been able to factor in the fact that the 309 was a real shitter then the swap was completely pointless and COST ME money

This swap to a 206 is fair enough as long as you don't have to spend too much on repairs and stuff, then it is likely to save you a few quid here and there.

Hey, why not get the 206 remapped, then you could.......oh, hold on....... :)

Ouch!!.... from some of the above, points taken tho...but maybe when/if diesel reaches £1.50 litre by easter things will seem more logical.
Anyway ill suck it and see and report back.i use the car for my business so clock up a few miles and 90% of the time its just me , a pen and a notebook in the car so maybe i should get a moped instead..anyway point also taken about the "leg crumple zone lol" the 206 bonnet is friggin short ,houdini must have shoehorn'd that 1.4 hdi in there!

As long as Diesel remains at the 'Nut' price I can at least remain slightly smug at my Petrol usage
