Hello,
Before anyone starts throwing tomatoes at me, I did search around for this but could not find anything relevant.
Basically, I need to replace the rear speakers in my D9 saloon. Armed with speaker spacers I had from my D8 saloon, I was suprised to find that the shape of the rear fitting speaker hole is different. This one is completely round (not rectangle-like) and the JBL speaker in there is moulded into the plastic housing, which fits to the metal frame under the rear shelf. Hm.... The fitting is different too, as there are no holes for normal 6x9 speakers in there. Thankfully the magnet hole is big enough to accomodate my Kenwoods.
But how do I make the spacers... Would I be better off just buying some basic 6x9 spacers on fleaBay and drilling the holes in the metal shelf for the screws? I don't want the speakers visible above the shelf and would like to refit the original grills so that it looks as standard as possible.
Anyone done this?

Re: Rear speakers upgrade?
Not done it, and don't know what the D9 shelf looks like, but I'd probably make up some spacers out of 18mm MDF. That's my usual method of choice no matter where abouts in the car or what speakers I'm using. I did something similar on my old 405 in removing the entire speaker assembly and cradle and modifying the whole thing to fit the new speakers in (cutting the support strips off the top of the grill on the cover and trimming various parts of the basket to fit around the magnet of the speaker. I think you'd be better off taking one of the speakers out and seeing what sort of shape and size you have to play around with. You may even be better off getting some different speakers to fit directly into the holes. Some nice 6.5" components with the tweeters mouted at the top of the C-pillars perhaps?
Re: Rear speakers upgrade?
I had exactly the same problem on my saloon.
The door speakers are a standard size, so lots to choose from.
Parcel shelf was a pain, I gave up bodging 6x9s into the car and bought some JBLs from a 406 exec which fit straight in.
The front speakers do most of the work anyway. I am very happy with the result, much better than standard fit sound.
