03 control stalk adapter

Post by piglet »

My(sons) 03 has the short dumpy radio control stalk - 6242Z6 ?
If we fit a Sony radio can we keep the column control with Autoleads PC39-125 ?

Has anyone done this successfully or is it more agro than it's worth.
Thanks

PC39-125 seems to be for CAN bus (search in http://www.armourautoretail.com/sites/a ... L2_WEB.pdf )

Peugeot 406 does not use CAN bus for the audio system, it uses a so-called "VAN bus" instead.

I think that you will need a PC99-213 (click your way through http://productfinder.autoleads.co.uk/index.htm ).

Your best chances are probably to ask directly at Autoleads, http://www.autoleads.co.uk .

Thanks for the reply Frog.
I had already ordered the 39-125, it arrived this morning and is quite a complicated bundle of plugs & wires.
I'll have a look at the stem and see if the connectors are right.

Are there are just 2 stalk types for the 406, long thin, short fat ??
Mines the short fat (no tittering)

The compact / sturdy variant is correct for mid 2001-on cars
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Frog, you were right, reply from autoleads:
Thanks for your email. You will need to use the PC99-213 and the relevant PC99-Patch lead i.e. PC99-SON or PC99-JVC.
I'll stick the -125 back on FleaBay.
The Sony is temporarily fitted, awaiting fascia, but can't get my head round the power management.
You turn the car off and the radio stays on so you turn the radio off, then when you put the key back in the radio powers up itself, the boy said the radio started itself when he put the key in the door! If you leave it on it does shut down by itself.
If there is a rhyme & reason, we haven't sussed it yet.

You might have swapped the permanent +12Volt line with the switched +12Volt line.

Looking at the pinout diagram, the ISO connector (8 pins) "A" (outer black one):
- A 6 = +12V IGN Power (Switched via Ignition key)
- A 7 = +12V Main Power (Permanent)
Pin A 7 is closest to the fuse.

Note that "Switched via Ignition key" is relative, the line is not switched off directly but after some delay (10-30 seconds) after removing the ignition key. And indeed the line is switched on at any activity, e.g. opening the car using the remote control.

Oh, so what happened to ISO 10487 being an international standard?
So PAS/Clarion have gone with switched on 6 & permanent on 7
The rest of the world have switched on 7 & permanent on 4

I'm surprised it hasn't caught fire.

What is Pin A4 '+VAN Comfort' ? Could that be illumination?

I am going to assume that A2 VAN data bus & A3 VAN data bus B will do nothing on the Sony.

:cheesy:

Here is a schematic that seems to be applicable: http://406oc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t= ... ic#p246711

Looking at that, pin 7 is permanent (marked yellow), pin 6 is indeed switched directly by the ignition key. Pin 4 is switched via the BSI box, by a relay. And it is fused by MF9 (big) and by an internal (smaller) fuse in the BSI box. So no fire, at most a blown fuse. But normally a radio will run fine without blowing one of these fuses.

BTW my remark that '"Switched via Ignition key" is relative' is then applicable for pin 4, not 6. So apparently my own radio is using pin 4, as it starts up as soon as i use the remote control and keeps on playing for half a minute after i remove the key.

If all else fails, maybe use one of these :cheesy: https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Volt-Met ... B001RSREKI ?

Yeah thanks Frog. I have got one of those, and will check it first.
Best way to sort this is to change the ISO plug on the Sony loom rather than change the car.
Sorting the supplies should be straightforward but it's a shame I can't be more certain about additional features, dimmer, phone mute, etc.

Why must they do this???????

Update,
Rewired Sony ISO, all good now. Turns on & off with key.
The only feature wired in the Sony plug was the electric aerial, which is actually correct on the Pug.
Not that I've got an electric aerial.

Shouldn't it run the amplifier in the base of the aerial?

Frogs pinout sheet just says: 'A 5 Power to Electric Aerial'
I'll pull the pin out and see what happens.
If there's an amp it won't work without power.

Update:
Removing pin A5 makes no difference to radio reception.
If there is an aerial base amp it must be getting it's power from elsewhere.

I can't see any in any of the D9 radio diagrams, I guess it was D8's (or my imagination  )
