Tweeters, all the same? Anybody got one?

Post by Doggy »

I fear Gary Rossington has finally killed my driver's side dash mounted tweeter, (or there's a couple of drawing pins buzzing about in there).

Does anyone know if a tweeter from any D9 would do the trick, or do you need one specifically form a JBL powered setup a la exec?

Anyone got one they want to part with?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Any tweeter from a D9 would work, but you'd be best off getting another JBL one if that was what was in there before.

Last time I checked a new one was only £10 at the dealer.

6562 C7 TWEETER - MOUNTING 4 LOUDSPEAKERS + 2 TWEETERS AND WITHOUT EQUALISER AMPLIFIER 7.78GBP
6562 C6 - MOUNTING 4 LOUDSPEAKERS + 2 TWEETERS AND WITH EQUALISER AMPLIFIER 40.68GBP  :frown:

I don't know what the JBL set up is like, hopefully it's more than the usual capacitor to take the low frequencies out and actually has a proper crossover, but I think I'd have it out, check for drawing pins and try to find something similar. You might even be able to find the same thing elsewhere much cheaper because it comes without the little bag with lions and chevrons all over it

The crossover is in the JBL amp. The tweeter itself is in 2 parts on the JBL with a little chrome dome tweeter & a mini-mid range bit underneath. There's a capacitor to separate the high frequencies to the chrome bit, but only the JBL amp protecting the mini-mid (which was how I blew the first set that I fitted as it was getting the full range).

Was sure they weren't that much when I had mine (but remember the main speakers being about £40 each). Decent tweeters from audio shops are usually £20 at least, but if you get in touch with a decent coupe breaker you may still be able to get a pair for £10 (which was what I paid for mine) & have a spare handy.
