Silent Radio + Duplicate Unit in Boot

Post by trufflehunt »

I've just bought a 406 hdi(110) Executive, year 2000. Leather seats, electric everything....
radio, sat nav, aircom.

I travelled 150+ miles to buy this car, and when I got there I spent most of my time
checking it over, the usual stuff, smoke, leaks, etc. What I didn't do was check the
radio, or indeed any of the audio stuff. The seller mentioned that the satnav was ok,
just needed setting up with the map CD, not present. TBH, I'm not too concerned
about the sat nav, as I prefer my TomTom.

Anyway, I bought the car, got home last night. Been out this morning, moved some
items from the boot, and discovered a complete rds/radio cassette unit just like the
one already in the dash. When I press the on/off button of the one in the dash...,
there is no life. In the glove pocket, there were a few screws, and a blade fuse.

A code card came with the owners handbook pack.

Any advice on how to proceed, what to do first, and next ?

The code card must be the one for the BSI as the radio shouldn't have one. Maybe the previous owner was going to replace the radio :? See if the fuse is missing, you could try another fuse but it might be wise to pull the radio out first and see if the wiring's been butchered. I don't know what the screws will be for, there's none holding the radio in :frown:

Thanks for replies.

Here's what happened.

The next morning, I went down to the local shop, turned off the ignition, glanced at
the central displays, and noticed a light behind the radio on/off knob.
I turned the knob, and all of a sudden the radio was working.

So, anyway, now it seems to work. Not sure if there is a funny with the on/off
switch, or whether I have still to get to grips with pressing it the right way.....

I'm not sure if it's the same issue but when I got my D9 some dolt had sprayed that back to black crap all over the dash and it had gone inside the on/off switch, making the contacts a bit iffy. Eventually, fed up with it either not turning on or off when I wanted it to, I twatted the damn thing and broke the circuit board. If I'd have just opened it up and sprayed some switch cleaner on it, it would probably have been ok.
