I had a similar problem with a mg zr stereo worked fine in his mates Clio but kept turning off in the mg and it was fixable something to do with the head unit his self wasn't compatable with the mg set up if that helps

That's a d9 my stereo is underneath all of the other controls or are the d8 and D9 set out the same ?

Ifound out what was wrong with the radio in the end,
chap at car audio repair shop as just rang me,
he says the ribbon cable from the board to the main screen is faulty,
iguess its flooked then shame tho as this thing does everything not much use tho when screen goes iffy,
Looks alright cheap enough as well is there no way of getting the other stereo repaired at all

not sure tbh mate,
he just said its the ribbon cable thats faulty, he was abit vague with details, he most probs carnt be arsed trying to source a cable as its a chineese import
if it was kenwood or sony he wouid of been fixing it no doubt
had alook on google carnt see anywhere that wouid sell a replacement cable,
Shame really suppose its worth keepin u may come across someone who can do it in the near future someone out there got to do it
