just a thought double din head

Post by ribz »

Hi guys and gals.

Could anyone tell me is it possible to install a double din headunit in the 406 dash without too much work.
just think that this would look better than a single head as the angle could be set so it looks factory if you know what i mean.

thanks in advance.

would love to see pics if it has been done.

Hi mate,
Ive thought about doing the same as theres some nice Double din units out there, (http://www.chinavasion.com/2-din-car-dvd/cvgxc85/ )
It wouid involve a bit of Hack sawing at the lower part of the Dash, and then Making up a Bracket, And then making up a face plate so itl all look flush And then theres the Length of the units consider, theres not much room in there for anything with loads of wires,

then theres the afterthought ihad: - if the car was ever sold, the Double din unit wouid have to go with the car or if it Broke Buying another unit to replace it, thats what put me off,

I've seen some pictures of one - was a few years back & can't remember whether it was here or the coupe forum, (here I think). From what I remember the various bits of centre console had been swapped around to let the big display replace the head unit & one of the other bits.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

many thanks for the replies. like the one done in the last link but dont feel i would be keeping the car long enough to warrant that much work.
depends on if it passes next mot. tight budget and all.
but if all is well and i go ahead i will keep you posted with pics and such.

thanks again.

he said it was the rear pipes going to the flex pipes so would assume they would just be the short ones from the load valve. got a kit and pipes on way so will have crack at making them up. just waiting for the parts to arrive now. hate waiting lol.

gooooood news all. the pug is back on the road after the third attempt at mot lol. handbrake cable did not snap for some reason the captive nut came off the end of the left hand cable and the cable fell out. saved time on that one. two attempts at the brake pipes fixed the bit i could see but the tester showed me more that should be replace. thank christ he is a decent bloke and gave me advisory on them. phew.
so time to save for the clutch and then the double din install. or might sell and go for 407 saloon.
cheers for all the input. glad you guys are all out there. 8)
