Executive jbl amp

Post by mattyg »

Hi all bought my 406 that i love couple of niggles though. Firstly the cd player doesnt play copy cd's just wondered i have the jbl speakers and i am led to believe that i have an amp too. Thing is i cant find the amp does anyone know where its fitted as i was wondering if it has conventional rca inputs so i can still use it if i change the head units. The sound system is fantastic and doesnt distort even when on full blast or can i change the multichanger thanks matt.

Don't quote me, but in the boot, you have the cd changer on the nearside behind the wheelarch
Whereas, the JBL amp should be the other side sitting behind the wheel arch on the offside

If it's anything like the Coupe, you've got two "flaps" in your boot - one on the left side, and one on the right.

Behind the flap on the left side, you have the CD autochanger cartridge. Just beside that, you've got the JBL amp. It's just out of easy reach there because you typically don't need to do anything with it.

Behind the flap on the right side, you have the satellite navigation CD-ROM drive.

No RCA inputs; it's a bespoke system designed for the car.

Using your own head unit rather than the Clarion tape deck the car is supplied with is difficult, but possible - assuming your head unit has RCA pre-amp outputs, and you can fit a pair of ground loop isolators in the tiny space that exists behind your after-market head unit. I tried, and couldn't; will maybe get an audio specialist to try a bit later this year.

Is my estate equipped with the JBL amp ? In the cars manual says it is equipped but my speakers is Harman ones .. and the radio i have the RM2 type radio cassette and CD interchanger on the boot.. i do have 2 doors on the boot, but the right one it's just a space to putting some stuff in there .. the amp is hidden ?

Well in fact my sound is really good even in very loud , my friends estate doesn't give a sound like mine does ...

By the way, can i change all the speakers and tweeters with a nice ones to replace the harman ? like JBL ones ?

You can replace the speakers in your car.

Maybe check out Service Box to see if your car is equipped with the JBL amp? If the car only has the normal Harman speakers equipped, then it almost certainly won't have the amp.

servicebox is not very conclusive, there is info on there, that it says that i don't have it and in fact i have it .. like the parking stop light, the engine under cover, this was a selection pack model and not like some that is a series one ( like my friends, his estate doesn't have a lot of the wirings i have on mine, like the eletric and heated seats, cruise control), so i suspect the info on there is not quite correct ..

The JBL amp on the Exec saloon is located next to the sat nav (right side of boot) with the CD changer on the left side.
