Stereo advice (please read first 3 replies too)

Post by Coxy »

I have a 1997 3.0 V6 and wish to install an aftermarket stereo.

I have found many things in search but am unsure which things are all applicable to my car and so am asking here for difinitive answers from you guys in the know please.

Firstly, I would like to keep use of my stalk controls. I have seen leads but on websites a couple said not for the V6 model. Which lead do I need please and will it work with any stereo with a control input?

Secondly, I understand it may be possible to retain use of the radio display on the MFD? I'm a little OCD in that I hate to have a display not doing anything, so again what would I need for this and is it only compatible with Sony as I have read elsewhere? Also, if not connected I assume the MFD continues to show trip computer info, but is it just blank then on the left side?

Cheers

Ok so now I found that I'd need 2 leads for the stalk controls;

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ict-29- ... aptor.html

+ Plus lead specific for stereo, i.e. for an Alpine; http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/incarte ... aptor.html

Am I right in thinking that my car, being a D8 with Philips stereo, can't be connected to the MFD? It appears only later models with VDO/Clarion have a lead for this, unless anyone knows different?

Also, I see two facias available, one being 'rubber touch'. Which is better and why? Basically I just want the stereo to look in place with the rest of the console as possible.

Lastly, any recommendations for stereos? I want iPhone connectivity via USB and be great to be able to make handsfree calls using Bluetooth, but I guess most stereos have these functions now anyway?

I'm liking this one the Alpine CDE-126BT;

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-cde126bti.html

Good connectivity and can illuminate in amber to help match the rest of the interior display.

Im not 100% which kit you need is your car a d8 or d9 ?

Have alook at this

http://www.incartec.co.uk/assets/files/ ... eugeot.pdf
thats for a d9
if you look at the one on the site for d8 it says for those used without a screen its confusing as yours you say is a 97 :?

airiel adapter you will need this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PC5-27-ISO-DIN-Ae ... 255d83296f

ithink this is the one you will need, : it might be worth sending them a message and asking them,
linky http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT-406-806-S ... 43a014e042

also if you order one make sure you tell them which patch lead you need Eg Alpine /sony /kenwood etc,
if you dont they just send out the 1st patch lead they pick up,

D8 for sure then.

It appears these both do the same job yet look different (if pics represent actual item) and are very differently priced.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT (patch lead included) £17.25

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ict-29- ... aptor.html (plus requires buying patch lead) £33.99 + £4.99

I assume they do the same thing and both are suitable for my car?

Correct.

Also, the more expensive ones may be for the multiplex models of vehicles, which start from 2002. Completely different electronics there.

1. you can get the stalk to still work . it doesnt matter what engine you have ..

2. i dont know any reason why you would want to keep the radio display on your dash . the radio will have a nice bright lcd display :mrgreen:

Engine, no. Whether the car is D8 or D9 and whether it's non-multiplex (pre-COM2000) or multiplex (COM2000) matters.
