help with wiring my radio-permenant live?

Post by martint »

Can someone help me? Ive tried switching the wires etc for permenant live but approx 15 secs after key comes out ignition,my radio switches off.I ve been told this is something to do with economy mode or something. Whats the easiest way to run a live feed from my battery to the radio,so i dont lose my settings etc when its turned off? 1 wire on radio has ACC on it.The other has BATTERY on it.Or what happens if I join those to up?will i have a permenant live then?

if your loosing settings you need to change the red and yellow wire. just cross them with each other

ie red to yellow
yellow to red

the radio is meant to go off after key is removed..

no mate-i know what you mean and I've tried that. did that on my citroen & it worked a treat.
must be something to do with the car being a D9. when the key's removed the radio stays on for about a minute but then goes off.must all be linked to the computer or something. but i DO know that its not as simple as swapping over red & yellow.
read somewhere else about shunts etc,.had a look on my fuses.the shunt is between 8 & the one below!
HELP!!!
if all else fails then im gonna have to take a direct feed off my battery i think

I know what you mean. Can't really go pulling it all out now to check, but if it is any help (&if it makes any sense to you), the illumination wire on my stereo wiring was the wire aiming at the right point in the plug for the live feed that you are looking for.

think im going to run a live from the battery to the acc live in the morning. cant understand why the french do their radio's like the rest of the planet almost. i've done plenty of radios before, but nothing like this has ever popped up before(especially when my radio goes off,1 minute after i remove the key from ignition!)
anyone got any other ideas,as i cant seem to recall seeing a mauve wire? think my car is a D9

my mate had a D9 . i installed the radio. it worked fine swopping the red and yellow wires :? :?

you probably know this allready - if your running a wire straight from the battery make sure you add a inline fuse and put it as close to the battery as you can .

Surely it would be easier to get a cheap electrical tester & test the lives coming out of the car end of the wiring with the keys in the ignition & a couple of minutes after taking them out? There is definitely a wire there as I managed to get mine wired in without the extra harness.

couldnt understand why at the time, but think the guy that had the radio before me fu*ked about wi his iso connector.
the acc live on a 406hdi is no6,permenant live 7 and return/earth 8
as you look at the end of the connector from the car with the nobbly bit facing top left=

hello,

im new to this forum as only purchased my 406 very recently, however i am having the same problem. I have fitted my kenwood stereo with aux in for my ipod., however when i turn the car off the stereo stays on for a short while then goes dead completely like its disconnected from the battery then when i turn it back on all the stereo stations are forgetten and the personalised settings reverted to factory.

i read above about switching the yellow and red, to be completely stupid will this work for me and what does that actually mean!!!

any help would be greatly appreciated!

regards

keith

sounds like you have a D9 406 ,

i think its normal for the stereo to stay on for a short whil untill the ECU powers down.

as for the radio stations being lost ? have you changed the yellow and red cable round ?
swop them with each other and that will be your problem sorted.

the red and yellow is the permanant live 8)
