if you want decent sound without using the JBL standard get an ALPINE
they are by far the best HU's you can buy for a car and the sound quality they give alone is amazing any1 who knows anything about car audio will tell you this

Re: JBL Amp and Clarion CD
but i understand you executive about they dont sit flush,
all standard car audio was made with 1 thing in mind to the manufacturer,
"use materials as cheap as possible just to get sum sound"
which means all standard stuff is sh*t (in 406s anyway)
thats why i have my own audio setup non of which is standard

Re: JBL Amp and Clarion CD
they dont really look like they were designed to fit there, function wise of course they could be 100 times better but the big clarion radio fills all of the space there perfectly, and is all the same colour and texture as the rest of the dash. But sound system in my 406 isnt the standard one its JBL (whatever that means) which is slighly better than you would get in an unmodified audio system of a lesser spec.

Re: JBL Amp and Clarion CD
heres a picture of the clarion radio:
see it fits the dash perfectly, an aftermarket radio is smaller they are single dins so there would be a gap. Even taking into consideration a facia adaptor it never looks factory fresh. Its the same with the later rover 75s the early ones got an interated sound system and the later ones got a single din slot radio.
Its just my taste by the way im not saying the clarion radio is the best it just fits snug thats all

Re: JBL Amp and Clarion CD
It was black originally but i sprayed all them parts silver, one of the best things i did to the dash cheap mod that really does modernise the interior, though id love brushed aluminium effect for this plastic.
