Re: removal of standard head unit
You need two knitting needles (or similar), fit them into the holes in each side and the head unit should pull out.

You need 4 on some of the D8 HU's, either that or kebab skewers!steve_earwig wrote:You need two knitting needles (or similar), fit them into the holes in each side and the head unit should pull out.

Usually that means swapping the red and yellow wires over on your new radio's loom, at least on Kenwood sets... Is there anything in the manual?

Re: removal of standard head unit
thanks, tried that did not work wondering if tjere is awire in the car wiring loom to the stereo
Re: removal of standard head unit
I had the same problem. the easy and more practical solution is to get the red power cable which goes into your new head unit, cut that, then get another piece of similar wire from hellfruads and run that from the battery (with a 10amp fuse joint built in, and located as close to the battery as possible) directly to your head unit. That way you don't require the ignition power to use your HU. Failing that you can only use the HU when the ignition is on unless someone knows the wire in the new HU that need cutting and splicing

Re: removal of standard head unit
If you have the wiring with the 2-1 adaptors, then put both red and yellow to the yellow wire. This should make both the ignition live and constant live run constant. On Kenwoods, red wire is ignition on, and yellow is constant 12V.

Re: removal of standard head unit
Didnt I see MJB saying something about a fuse in the D9 that has two optional positions, one giving constant feed to the radio and cig lighter the other working as an "ignition live"
by default its in the ignition live position, or have i been on the crack pipe again

Yep thats true. I tjink you can do the same with the ciggarette lighter to remain on after the ignition is off

Re: removal of standard head unit
Yeah, but the OP said that the radio was on when the key wasn't in the ignition, hence both power sources will be on permenant live. Quite why the new stereo's not remembering the settings is a tad confusing.
Re: removal of standard head unit
i read it that he was referring to the original head unit being able to work without ignition. however, the new head unit will not store the memory once ignition off. hence as its been said its needs some constant form of constant feed to withhold the memory. Mine did exactly the same thing so as suggested i literally routed it to the battery.HimBigChief wrote:Yeah, but the OP said that the radio was on when the key wasn't in the ignition, hence both power sources will be on permenant live. the only section which the OP says is that it won't switch off... that does have me confuzzled or have i read his post completely mumbo jumbo???
