I am about to take delivery of a 2002/52 plate HDi exec and I am looking into replacing the stock stereo head unit just like I did in my old D8. I have read a lot of stories about "multiplexed" wiring or what-not and, to be honest, I ignored these conversations as it didn't apply to my D8 Now, though, as I need to get rid of the stock HU and replace it with the Alpine unit/iPod etc. I am wondering if I am going to have any problems with the rest of the system, like trip computer and air con.
I am not sure, but I don't think I have the JBL amp, even though the rear speaker grilles have a JBL logo on them. Definitely has the CD changer.
My 52 plate Exec estate has RM2 system - includes JBL amp etc with CD (& sat nav that I've never used).
ServiceBox will tell you which system you have if you enter the VIN number.
I think your car will definetely be multiplexed.
I'm no expert on ICE, but I'm sure there'll be one along shortly.......
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
An '02 will be multiplexed however I don't think there'll be a problem with taking the stereo out and slapping an aftermarket one in, unless you do have an amp in which case you'll want an adaptor like (i think - i'm about to order one) the PC2-36-AMP on this page: http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_fitt ... ectors.htm to let you feed the amp with the head unit's line-level outputs instead of the speaker outputs (not good!)
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
I don't remember there being anything on the right side of the boot liner. Certainly something on the left (CD changer I assume) but nothing on the right
Found this interesting post on the Coupe forums. That's how you know. I guess mine is multiplexed - let's hope I won't have too many problems replacing the HU/Amp (should I decide to).
sorry to hijack just looked everywhere! did you get the adaptor for the amp? which one is it and did it work? i really wanna get this sorted
Thanks
Steve
