Hi all.
Been googling how to do this for the past hour or so - maybe one of youse guys can help.
I have a 406 exec estate and have replaced the cassette player head unit with a bluetooth streaming head unit. Sounds fantastic, lost the use of the cd changer (no loss considering my phone has 8GB storage on it) and Sat Nav audio has gone - which is a bitch!!!!! Apparently aftermarket units have no inputs for factory sat nav audio.
However . . .
There appear to be a couple of options:

Anyone fitted one to a 406?
Option 2 is connect a speaker to the sat nav audio feeds and bung it under the seat. (apparently without amplification the volume is quite satisfactory). This for me is plan A (see above for plan B).
Anyone know how I would identify the audio leads from the sat nav?
As usual, all help hints and advice very gratefully received.
Cheers.

Looks like it's either plan A or get a tomtom, which you can transfer to your next car. I gather the standard fitted sat nav is pretty crap anyway, so probably not worth spending much money on.

Not a big fan of Tom Toms - nearly wrecked the firms van when one unsuckered itself and me being the twat tried to re attach it whilst driving. For my own (and other road users) safety I'll try and live with the (now soundless) factory unit - it still functions through the info display unit. Much safer that way I feel.Gary406 wrote:would it not be easier and better to just buy a tomtom ? you can get them from £40 upwards nowadays .
There is also the bind of having to remove it every time I leave the vehicle. Chap next door had his stereo, sat nav and many cd's lifted from his Focus whilst parked on his drive one morning.
If they made tom toms with a small amount of explosive inside (nothing lethal - just equitable to the stuff that sets your airbags off) primed to detonate 100m away from the vehicle I could be swayed. I'd lose the sat nav but thats a small price to pay for such an enormous benefit!!!
Would have been nice if someone out there had a schematic showing the audio feed wires though . . .

Re: Factory Sat Nav Audio through Aftermarket Head Unit
open up the sat nav drive in the boot, look at the pcb and see if you can find any thing resembling a sound output, sorry i cant help anymore but i havent got a factory sat nav, though i think that a factory fitted sat nav is better than an aftermarket one because it blends seamlessly into the dash, thats the problem with so much stuff it looks aftermarket and doesnt blend into the dash it looks obtrusive, and for that reason i hope you find a solution to your problem.
