Hеad-lights remain on

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Hеad-lights remain on

Post by 486 »

Hi. Today I had strange problem. When stopped the engine and come out I found that head lights are still on. The switch was OFF. I switched quickly on/off without effect. Then switched again and lights become off. I guess first attempt was too fast. There was no lighting on dashboard and no warning sound when door is open. The 406 is with enabled daylights, BSI, COM2000. Is this known issue?

Did you click the indicator stalk up before you left the car?
Most 406s have 'follow me home' lights which keep them on for 1 minute after you remove the key ( to guide you to your front door )
The headlights should turn off after 1 minute, otherwise it may be something else.

AFAIK for my 406 'follow me home' is not activated. I will test is now - it will be good if the unknown extra (for me) is the reason.

PS: Good surprise - it seems it has been 'follow me home' extra. I didn't know that I have it.

The 406 was relatively simple, now I have a C5 I don't know what about 75% of the functions do. :?

If it's anything like mine, it'll do different things every time the wind changes.
I'm convinced it's haunted.

Yoyo II is refreshingly free of all these fancy gewgaws, lecky windows, air con, foldy mirrors, I think that's it. It was originally a company car and I guess nobody ticked any boxes. It was fitted with parking sensors later in life, after it got reversed into something, but they've long since left the building.

What is the impression of the C5 compared to 406? Are there common problems like broken front spring (with tyre damage) in 406?

A serious disappointment.
Visibility is awful, much less space particularly in the boot.
Some have hydraulic suspension, mine hasn't but did fail its last MOT for 2 broken rear springs and a couple of anti roll bar drop links. Recently had CV joints and front bottom ball joints replaced.
Most have electric handbrakes, (mine thankfully doesn't).
It's loaded with thoughtful* features like door mirrors with alternate settings when you reverse, automatic rear screenwipe in reverse, (sometimes) :?
Mine has front and rear parking sensors, (essential cos you can't see), but if the display swaps to the parking sensor screen, none of the radio controls will work.
You can't switch the sidelights on without the ignition unless you remove the key and open/close the door
Worst of all the later 2.0 HDi is nothing like as smooth, refined, economical or powerful as the wonderful 406 2.2 HDi's I had for 11 years prior to the C5

If you've still got a half decent 406 treasure it!

I plan to upgrade the 406 probably to the end of year but cannot decide the model of next car. Probably Toyota Avensis. Sorry for off-topic but C5 was one of potential choices.
