O/S Headlight not working

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

O/S Headlight not working

Post by grasmere59 »

Hi All,
I can't believe it,with all the years of ownership the 406 has thrown a curve ball,it's a 2003 Executive estate 110,the O/S headlight has stopped working on dip beam,oh i thought just a bulb but no,bulb is fine,no 12v feed to the bulb, fuse is fine, checked for corrosion on the multipin to the headlight and all o.k,tried a spare headlight in case the female part of the plug might be knackered still nothing.
Can someone point me in the direction of what colour wire on the multi pin to the headlight is the dip beam feed so i can check that and work my way back? Most disappointed in the old girl.

Are you definitely checking the right bulb?
The one which is easiest to get to is the high beam bulb, the tricky ones by the edges are the main beam...

Kelv,
You are talking to biggest muppet that ever drew breath,i read a few old post about changing out the wrong bulb, now would i do that?
I have changed a few headlight bulbs in the past on the old girl so i know what i'm doing....................................not!
You hit the nail on the head,i am now going to blame my incompetence on the length of my hair due to the lockdown and how it must be draining any ounce of common sense i used to posses.
All is well now

It's only because I've done the very same thing that I suggested it - I spent a whole hour once, replacing a perfectly good bulb over and over again, while the duff one was sat quietly, probably laughing at me...

I even wrestled the damn headlight out and tried another but it had no bulbs so put a bulb in the wrong holder again!!!!
Well at least i've greased the headlight bolts as they were a pig to get out as they were rusty so it'll just slip out next time

Does anyone know where we can get t-shirts printed? I've done this as well, but on the old yoyo. I then faffed about trying to work out which fuse I was looking for and managed to blow a perfectly good fuse to boot :supafrisk:

I think probably most of us have been there at sometime. I once spent some time removing and testing the brake light switch - only to find eventually that both stoplight bulbs had failed. What are the chances? but it happens.
