Having trouble with radiator fan

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Having trouble with radiator fan

Post by Ivan495 »

Basically, my radiator fan died so I'm looking for a new one.

It wouldn't be so bad if I don't have trouble finding one.
My 406 is 2002. 2.0 HDi 110. As i removed old fan, I realized that it has 5 round contacts. 2 larger and 3 smaller ones, while every fan I seem to find online has only 2 contacts on fan.

What should I do? How is this wired? If I followed wires right. One cable is going from relay that is located next to battery and other cable is going from radiator to radiator fan.

I have a radiator fan in my shed, which was working perfectly before I removed it ( albeit about 4 years ago..)
I will have a look at some point tomorrow or Monday and I will post my findings.

Yes, this one seems right, but the price is crazy.
I don't know why this one is so harder to find while there are lots of those with 2 contacts.

It is a bit steep it's not an easy fan to find. I only found that one because theirs a company in Poland that can supply the circuit board and it matched your description for the connectors.
There are other ones that look the same on the pug 407 and shitroen c5 and there a bit cheaper about £130.

Fan needs to be 2 speed, ones with only 2 contacts are single speed. Fitting one with only single speed will likely affect proper operation of cooling/aircon so more investigation required. I did fit a 2 speed fan from a BMW into one of my early hdi's and it seemed to work (original was accident damaged). Cant remember how I wired it up though, was about 12 yrs ago.

Okay, I'm going crazy. After about 50 messages to new and used car parts dealers, I can't seem to find fan with 5 pins. Everyone has one speed - 2 pin versions.

Can somebody help me with finding part info and from what other vehicles does it fit.
I found one fan from Citroen C2/C3 that looks pretty much the same like mine, but person that sells it told me that doesn't fit on 406.

I've just checked the fan in my shed.

It has the grey relay, one small grey connector with 3 pins, one larger black connector with 2 pins ( one male one female )
The fan spins by hand, although the metal parts are a little rusty from storage.

Any good to you?

That seems right. Too bad I'm not from the UK.
Do you happen to know the part number so I can search for it more easily?

I'm happy to post it to you :cheesy:

Part number 18317870000 - not sure it's 100% correct though, hard to tell as it's worn away...

I'm from Croatia, so I don't know much about shipping from UK.
If you are still interested, send me price in PM and how to pay you.
