Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Is this on a petrol engine?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

My last petrol car - a 3.0 Omega - had an electric pump to force air into the exhaust. Purpose was to help combustion of unburned fuel to get the catalytic converters up to working temperature quicker. Only operated when the engine was cold.
I suspect there may be a similar system on your car

where do you think the pump is located? this problem occur when i started the for like few minutes or mostly while am driving, and the car will misfire heavily and power will reduce, while sometimes no misfire it will just appear and show engine sign.

Service Box shows an air pump as "8" in the following diagram, but i cannot seem to find the PSA part number:

Looking up a 407 in Service Box retrieves part no. 1618E4. But i'm not sure that is the same for a 406.

Hope this helps...

It could just be the fuse for the air pump.
The ecu must "think" the pump is not working - it probably will not measure the pressure or flow, it is more likely to monitor the voltage

Sorry, I didn't realise you had carried out the actuation test.
Wiring diagram for the RFN engine shows a "pulsair pump" with only 2 connections, (which must be OK if you can hear it run).
It does have an "induction air pressure sensor", possibly this is how it monitors the pump?
Might be worth checking if you can read the values from this sensor with the engine running

I guess PP2000 does not give any further information if you click on the error message you showed in your earlier post?

yes the pp2000 does not give a further information about the error.

Does the fault re-appear after clearing all faults?

Maybe the problem has gone. Some faults are not automatically cleared but need to be cleared manually using PP2000.

Came across this post in another forum that mentioned:
I can only assume that the air ports in the cylinder head are blocked as I made up a fitting and put workshop air into the head via the air pump inlet valve. I removed the upstream O2 sensor and no air was coming out which only leads to one thing and that is the ports are blocked. I will learn to live with the fault coming on every two to three weeks as I am not going to remove the cylinder head to unblock the ports. Hope this helps.
