Pollution code error

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Pollution code error

Post by scoot67 »

Hi all Help !!! Ok The other day car jsu lost all throttle response Was just off tick over Around 1250 revs RAC came couldn't fix it The mechanic it took it too has said there a 6 codes All that run engine. RAC chap thought it could be throttle position sensor my mechanic has disconnected that but all the other codes still show He reckons if it was that sensor the other codes would have cleared. He disconnected battery and now it won't recognise key so obviously won't even start now.

Looks like it ECU gone ? Spoken to someone else who will do full diagnostics at a decent price But before I take it has anyone else suffered similar ? Also is it possible to get an ECU from a breaker and have it reprogrammed Looking for cheapest options as I love the car but getting to point where I can't throw too much cash at it

Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Hi,

The pollution error codes can have a mechanical root cause, but they can also be caused by problems in the vacuum tubing and/or the electrical wiring in the engine. It would be helpful if you shared screen dumps of PP2000 showing the faults (google for "pp2000 fault screen", then click on "Images" for examples).

Disconnecting the battery can corrupt the BSI if the "3-minute rule" is not applied (see also: http://www.petercoopercarrepairs.co.uk/ ... cedure.htm or just google for "3 minute rule bsi"). If the BSI is corrupt, the key transponder is no longer recognized and the car will not start.

If you want to replace the ECU and/or BSI, you shoud get a complete set: ECU + BSI + car key(s). They are matched together so you cannot replace them individually.

Hi Thanks for the info. I'm not able to show any pics of fault codes Sorry. Have had a bit of good news in the fact the mechanic did find a wire from alternator shorting. He has sorted this and the fault codes have gone Key re coded and car now starts and revs but is stuck in economy mode. We have read the BSi rebooting info but he is worried that it might kick out the key again ?

Good news! :D
If you apply the "3 minute rule" you will be safe.
Normally, the BSI leaves economy mode as soon as the engine has started successfully and is running. I've never experienced this, but from what i've read a low battery voltage may keep the BSI in economy mode even if the engine is running. Make sure your battery is in good condition.

Maybe that wire on the alternator isn't correctly refitted or fixed?
Not sure why economy mode hasn't disappeared after starting - most unusual... :?

Success :) Pete the Peugeot lives. The mechanic did the BSI reboot and it worked. The only hassle he had was the remote buttons on my key are broken. So he had to use a tester on the fuse to simulate holding the remote for 10 seconds.

Thank you for your help

Oh trust me I do. Way cheaper than taking it to an auto electrician he just kept going back to it when he had half an hour. He likes the challenge me thinks :cheesy:
