auto wipers ?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

auto wipers ?

Post by johntl »

Any ideas guys

when I switch to auto it either wipes on single speed or as most of the time does not work at all, its just on auto setting the rest works ok ?
do you think it is the stalk or the sensor ? has anybody had same issues ??

My car is a 2001 110 hdi

I think that's more likely to be switch.

do not think it is comm2000
mine has no sat- nav , rain sensor via stalk, button on end for display function
my car was made near the changeover from 109 bhp to 107 bhp ,I think its 107 ??
can you tell without dismantling ??

Wot, not 110bhp?

It's easy to tell if you know what you're looking for. Plenty of com2000 pics in this thread viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17391 The point being if it isn't and the stalk's goosed then you won't need to sell a kidney to replace it (if it's beyond fettling). If it is com2000 then it would make diagnostics much easier - if you have access to PP2000 anyway...

The reason I think it's the switch is if the sensor's goosed then it should just fall back to a standard intermittent. The way you describe it seems more like it's either not getting far enough for intermittent to work or it's going too far and putting low speed on.

Can't be asked to log in to Service Box (time for bed, kill downloads, find a proxy server that's in the UK, delete cookies, yadda yadda) but I have a feeling you should check the part numbers.

Would also like to be right about it being the switch, rather than only suspecting it...

Hi all,

took sensor off, cleaned it, and when switched to auto there no orange light indication
so need to check if sensor getting power when switched on to see if its the sensor or the stalk
Am I right in thinking if the sensor is u/s the wipers go into default setting ?
When sw to auto more and more just goes to single speed

If going to be expensive will manage as is !!!

I think they're meant to go to a default intermittent setting (IIRC I read that over on the coupe klub) but I guess it depends how much is actually wrong with them.

Just a thought like back the old days!
Is there a way of tapping into the wiring to fit a switch in circuit to turn on an intermitent wipe ???

There used to someone doing it for about £29, but I think they were only replacing the little plastic pin that shears off allowing the indicator stalk to go 'floppy'. (You can buy this bit on its own now for coppers). Suspect neither solution will resolve a faulty wiper switch mechanism.
