406 estate, heater blower just stopped this morning.
Completely dead, I suspect a fuse or as in the case of the XM the fuse holder self destructs, but I don't know where it is, probably under the bonnet but haven't looked - its cold out there.
Can anyone assist?
Thanks
Peter

Sorry but I'm afraid you're going to have to remind me what flavour of 406 this one is

Think Peter's is a fairly late model 110 HDi?
Usual fault is the blower speed controller giving you permanent full speed, changed mine last year.....
Fuses appear to be MF4 in the engine fusebox, then fuse 'F' on the side of the BSI, (assuming it's a full-mux D9).
My bro's old 1.9 D8 had a burnt up connector on the fan motor that responded to cleaning up/reseating

Yes it is I believe a full MUX, it's an 01 reg but seems to have been made in 02?. 110 Hdi LX. Our other one is an 01 GLX but appears to be only semi MUX
I did make a reply with this info yesterday but the broadband failed just as I sent it.
Thanks Steve and Doggy I will just have to work my way through it checking the easiest things first. I had several XM fail and it was either the 30a fuse holder or the transistors in the regulator.

I had this problem recently, turned out to be melted contacts in the ignition switch. Eventually it failed with the keys in, engine running and unable to turn engine off or turn keys to remove them.
Replaced switch with new unit from Ebay and blower working again. 99 hdi 110.

1999 406 HDi 2.0 110 GTX Estate. 48k when bought, now 150K. Second owner, I've covered over 100k in it.
Clutch changed @110k, bottom pulley changed, cam belt changed, EGR blanked, cat removed, front springs changed.

Strangely the fault has disappeared for the present, I'm expecting it back any time though. I would think the most likely culprit is the power plug on the heater but have been to busy to look.

Re: 406 estate, heater blower just stopped this morning.
I had an intermittent blower on one of my 406's
Found it was the wiring from the back of the ignition switch,
If you drop the panel under the steering wheel and give them a wiggle you might find it starts and stops

Can be checked via pp2k, could be the resistor has died.
Quite a few have had it happen on the coupe forum.
There is some info in the 'how to' section

Re: 406 estate, heater blower just stopped this morning.
I've said it before, there are only 3 usual suspects for a failed blower motor...
1 - Resistor under the passenger dash, a £20 eBay part but check the wires first as they sometimes melt...
2 - Ignition leads behind the barrel, also a £20 eBay part, can sometimes be diagnosed by wiggling the key in the ignition.
3 - Fuse.
The blower itself can fail but it's rare, as is a failed climate control unit, there is also an engine running relay which feeds the circuit, again I've not heard of one failing before.
Hope you sort it soon - it's getting blooming cold outside.

Thanks Ginger
They were similar faults to the XM ones, the fuseholder in the under bonnet box was favourite, I have had to replace one of those with a 'floating' 30 amp fuse holder, that cured it. I have also had several transistors fail in the motor speed controller, in fact I have a repaired XM in in stock but I don't suppose its the same as the 406, never had the motor itself fail thought as you say.
Fortunately it was the spare car that failed my wife's is still OK, I can't be doing without a good heater.
