Center lock won't work after few seconds

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Center lock won't work after few seconds

Post by paniya88 »

Center lock won't work few seconds after I took the key from ignition barrel
It seems like power to the doors will be cut down after few seconds. Door puddle light also turn off and Display time & radio channels reset when I turn on the key.
What might be causing this? Car is 2001 peugeot 406 2.0 16v

Maybe a blown fuse, from Haynes it looks like MF8 (maxi-fuse 8, "Passenger compartment fuse") or MF9 ("Built-in system interface") are good candidates to check. Maxi fuses are in the engine compartment fuse box (BM34). In some models, the maxi fuses cannot be accessed directly, they in a separate box under the normal printed circuit board; see images on https://citroenc3owners.com/citroen-c3- ... s-t36.html (search for text MAXI).

See also http://www.bba-reman.com/forums/Topic162464.aspx that seems to describe the same issue.

I checked the fuses and they are okay and my case after I switch off and take off the keys center lock and the door puddle lights work for about 30 seconds. then they all go dead. If I unlock the door by the key only that door will be unlocked. I tried the BSI reset also. My mechanic also have no idea about this

I summarize your issues. After contact off and removal of key, after 30 seconds:
- Radio loses all its memorised channels
- Door puddle lights turn off
- Central door locking does not work, key operates only mechanically opening one door at a time

I looked in SEDRE (the DVD with the electrical schematics) and found the following schematics (see below) that seem to be applicable to your car model.

As you say the radio loses all its memorised channels, so it must be the permanent power feed (+ 12 V) that is failing. The first schematic shows its path (indicated in yellow): Battery --> BM34 MF8 --> BH28 SH (Shunt) --> F10 . Maybe it is not a blown fuse but a broken wire?

BM34 = engine fuse box
BH28 = passenger compartment fuse box

The line via MF9 cannot be the problem, it is via this line that the BSI powers the radio for another 30 seconds after key contact off.

I also added the diagram to all the power feeds to the BSI box. And I added the diagram for the interior lighting. Hope this is helpful for you.
