Just filled up but still on empty!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Just filled up but still on empty!

Post by peugeot30v6 »

So I just filled up my V6 with petrol at a Shell filling station and it reads on empty. Maybe a fuel sender but it is only ever since my cluster problem a couple of days ago! Right now everything is normal, the fuel gauge is the only thing.

A bit beside the point I know, but some years ago I filled up at the Shell at Sterling Corner. As I intended filling completely, I didn't bother looking at the pump, but just waited for delivery to stop. After what I though was an inordinate amount of time, I checked the pump which said I had put 125 litres in. As it was only supposed to be a 60 litre tank I thought I would check the gauge. It read the same 1/4 tank as when I had pulled in. Neither myself or any of the guys there could explain that one, so I drove to S Mimms Services at M25 J23 and filled there. 40+ litres went in and the gauge read full.

Not much help but my fuel gauge did something similar at one point after the battery was a little flat and cranking the car caused everything to pulse, putting some fuel in didn't fix it for me either, though it did eventually start to read correctly again. (or as correct as 406 gauges get anyway).

Had a slightly similar thing happen to mine recently.
I took the car over to Holland and on the day of my return went to the filling station to put some fuel in. Not a fill up, I hasten to add, just about 20 Euros or so. The gauge didn't register this and the mfd 'miles remaining' figure didn't increase either.
It stayed like this all the way back to the ferry and only when I drove off the ferry at Harwich down a fairly sharp incline did I notice the 'missing' fuel re-appear on the gauge!
I guess the float in the tank got stuck or something.....

i too used to have this issue the car gauge would read all the way down to zero then the red light would come on if you let it go this low you had to put more than 4 gallon (£25) in to get the gauge to read the correct value otherwise it would show nothing at all.

try and keep it so that the red light does not come on and it should function as intended. :)
