Central locking playing up

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Central locking playing up

Post by Benner »

Hi all

My central locking occasionally wont lock and I have to walk around the car and re-slam the doors until it does.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm kinda hoping that something just needs a squirt somewhere.

Cheers

Ben

I have only tried it using the remote.

One thing I forgot to say was that this is a D8 406.

Do you think it could just be that then?

It seems to register ok but as soon as it locks it then unlocks (just like if you try locking when the front doos are open)

Will give that a go, i'm sure they are pretty ancient.

Thanks

if its unlocking straight away it could be the microswitches that control the interior light getting stuck,
does the dead locking work?

Aye, it does sound like a switch problem, might even get away with buying an aerosol can of electrical contact cleaner from Maplins and squirting round each door's 'button' then working the button for a minute or so.

However I'm not sure it would be the interior light switches - they can stay off when the door is just slightly open. When I first changed a dashboard light on my 406 I bought a few extra bulbs and parked them in the unused holes for safe keeping. One of those holes was for a 'door open' light, and whadda ya know when I put the bulb in it started working! I've noticed that this light however seems to use a different way to sense open doors as the light will show a good while before the interior lights will come on!

Since the detection on the central locking is a lot more sensitive to open doors than the interior lights I'd suggest that there's another button/switch/sensor in each door which is the culprit in this case.
