Hdi Estate O/S headlight

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Hdi Estate O/S headlight

Post by PeterN »

My dipped headlight failed so I naturally assumed as you do that the bulb had gone, replaced it, still no light, checked the old bulb OK. I have no voltage or earth on the plug, one side reads about 25 ohms to earth the other about 50. Any ideas? I'm hoping that there is a relay somewhere and its not a horrible electronic fault.

Thanks

Are you sure it's not a fuse - (they have one each dip & each main beam)?
You should have a low resistance, (<2 ohms), to earth on one pin of every lampholder.

There is meant to be a connector under the battery tray somewhere.

Is this semi-mux or full? I think we need a build number or vin.

The problem seems to be an o/c lead, I took all the fuses out and tested them, all OK but no voltage on the dipped light lead, I thought the problem would have been an the back of the fuse board as I have had problems like that before, but as I didn't want to take the dashboard out I took an easier route, I have fitted a relay powered by the working light, just dropped in into the under bonnet fuse box to give it some protection, I now have two dipped headlights 8) the one operated by the relay is slightly brighter than the other one because it gets its supply straight from the main battery feed.

Thanks for all your suggestions, didn't read about a connector under the battery tray until I had done it - so I hope it wasn't that :?
