Indicator stalk problem

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Indicator stalk problem

Post by sockpuppet »

Having a bit of a problem with my indicator stalk in my 03 Rapier HDi 90.

When i indicate to the right, then turn right and obviously straighten the wheel up again, rather than cancel the indicator, it begins to indicate left. This doesnt happen the opposite way (ie. indicating right after ive turned left) so i dont know whats up with it. I think it might be something inside as sometimes the indicator wont move and i have to force it, almost feels like im breaking it so get it to move.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Oh dear, you're going to want a new COM2000 unit (the stalks) I think steve earwig did a dissection of one that was behaving the same as yours, and it came down to a silly little bit of plastic being snapped if memory serves?

Ebay or scrappy, but don't go to a dealers because these things are bloody expensive new!

Weak spring I reckon, might work if you stretch it but you have to take the thing out and strip it to get to it. The broken bit of plastic is what I think makes them go intermittent.

Com2000 change
Inside the damn thing

There's quite a few different ones, if you pm me your VIN I can tell you which, they're not cheap but I managed to get mine for much less than the stealer's through partspool.com, it was advertised for a Citroen but it was the same part number, all I did was stick it in Google and up it came 8)

Mine's been doing that for years fella, I've just learned to live with it. In fact I now find myself supporting the stalk in other cars when straightening up....

I did price a COM2000 a few years ago, it was £140  , hence living with it

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

6242 30 VALEO - W/O REAR SCREEN WASH WIPE AND WITHOUT ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM - I'm guessing this is your's
6242 H6 DELPHI - W/O REAR SCREEN WASH WIPE AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM
6242 C2 DELPHI - REAR SCREEN WIPER AND WITHOUT ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM - there's one of these on www.partspool.com again, £79.80
6242 C6 DELPHI - REAR SCREEN WIPER AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM

Incidental I checked out the 407 and they're now COM 2009. And I dread to think what "BSI Evolution" is :!:

While I was looking yesterday I clicked the link for the com 2000 on PartsPool and it automatically emailed the guy, so I emailed him to apologise and explained. He checked for me but that 6242 30 is Peugeot only so he can't help us. I note there's recon ones on ebaygum for 90 quid - which is appalling considering that they'll just screw up again. New ones for 140 quid isn't as bad as Pug but it's still terrible, considering that it's only the indicator that messes up :(

It's a shame I'm so far away, I still have my old one here...

HI,

I had to get one of these a week or two ago for MOT/Council test

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

I was desperate for it and paid £10 for overnight delivery.
Its the genuine brand new Valeo/DAV article (for my executive) pn6242c2 and works perfectly now
A pig to fit as the airbag/steering wheel etc had to come out.

Back in the day when I had access to servicepox I remember noting that there were 2 part numbers, the original one and a superseding one. I'd be cautious about buying off ebay or whatever in case you end up with the original one to the same crappy design which will just fail again, rather that the modified design which hopefully won't. If it's gonna cost £115 =£10 P&P off ebay it might be better to just spend the £140 at the stealer :supafrisk: .

Hi,

In fairness..the new one feels much more substantial than the earlier design.
It also carried a maufacturing date of Dec2009 on it and came from a Pug 'specialist'..Neat autos.
I read about the earlier crappy ones getting sold cheaply so I was on my guard. My Local dealer was quoting much higher prices around £180 & vat. And would have had to order within 3 days.
Incidentally my car seems to be now on its 3rd lot of stalks now!

This was one of the reasons I was pleased to find this site, hoping to find an inexpensive repair for this fault after being told it's common and costs £200 ish to sort. Seems that is not possible unless I raid the company Citroen 'whateveritscalled' van and do a swap! Therefore will be living with it, coping, and feeling a warm affinity with others dealing with the same situation.
You're here for a good time, not a long time. Party on dude!!!!
