So i finally picked my car up today and it has a couple of niggles
i put the passenger window down about 4 inches on the way home and when i tried to raise it again it went up fine.....the first time
i later lowered it again but this time i went to raise it and it went all the way down instead and would only come back up after wiggling the switch for about 10 minutes
i'm therefore presuming that its the switch unit that's faulty (all the other windows work fine) but before i buy one i need to know if all switch units are the same or do they vary between models?
mine is an LX HDi
many thanks in advance

Re: Drivers window problem
As far as I know all the switches are the same but can you clarify which window is at fault as you mention drivers and passenger window in your post.
If its the passenger window it can be operated from both front doors so if 1 works and the other doesn't I'd be looking at the switch if neither work it may be something else.
If you do suspect the switches I would be inclined to whip the door card off and check for signs of water ingress through the membrane. Clean everything up with some contact cleaner and a toothbrush and see if that makes a difference.
Grab a bag of door card clips from pug if you do take the door card off, they're cheap enough and it will avoid any annoying rattles if you break any.

Re: Drivers window problem
Sorry, it's the drivers side front window that's playing up
Re: Drivers window problem
Ok mate, pop along to a breakers armed with a thin flat bladed screwdriver and pop 1 or 2 in your pocket, they tend to get wet getting in and out of the car or if a previous owner was a smoker and used the exterior ashtray when it was raining.
Alternatively some contact cleaner and a small stiff brush on any contacts you can see might do the trick.

Re: Drivers window problem
This is one of the little things that many of us have sorted either by replacing or fixing.
Sometimes they are the first thing to be removed from a scrap car, but if you find one and it works then you can strip / clean your old one as a spare. Maybe check eBay..?
As Gumby says, they are a bit vulnerable, but easily remedied.
