Dismantle blower motor

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Dismantle blower motor

Post by lecky4 »

Hi everyone. I need to get my blower motor apart. The connector on it has started to melt and the terminal is now loose and I'd like to secure it if I can. So, could anyone tell me how to get my heater blower motor apart. I know you can change the brushes so there must be a way to do it. There is three indents with rubber stoppers in there. Do you push these in and up or down, do you need to do all three together which with only two hands isn't easy and doing one at a time isn't working either.
It may only be 12V but it's the amphere that kills you!

Remove the glovebox/lower part of the dash and there is 4/5 screws on the bottom of the blower unit and the blower just drops out :)

And in regards to your sig... It may be the amps that kill you, but 12v will never be able to push another current through to kill you anyway ;)

Three screws to get the motor out, but how do you get into the motor. It only takes 0.3Amp to kill you but I never said 12V was enough to push it through!

It's not that I'm ungrateful for the help or trying to be awkward, but the motor is out and in my garage. As stated in the original post I need to take it apart.

Sorry no pictures as where it's difficult to get one worth posting. It's the connector that's actually on the motor. There must be a way in because you can buy the brushes to replace them.

It's possible to get it out. You've already seen the 3 rubber stoppers. Take a flat blade screwdriver, insert into one of the holes, pivot the screwdriver away from the centre of the blower so that the screwdriver's flat end pushes the rubber inwards towards the centre of the blower and upwards. Work your way around all 3 holes so that the motor comes upwards bit by bit.

Hope you can understand my description. :)

Ahh cunning! I was wondering what you'd be able to do with a dismantled fan

BTW, is your sig right? An ES9J4S in a D8?!? If so, how did you get the D9 ECU to play ball with the rest of the car (in particular the lack of a BSI), or did you just leave the D8 ECU in and live without control of the VVT solenoid?
