Front Tyres - Getting your money's worth

Check out the horrors of my old Pirelli P7's at 5 years old, bad wishbone bushes started the wear, fixed that with new wishbones + hunters tracking in November 2018 but the wear just kept going. Having it tracked again this week. I may* have been provoking tyre scrubbage in the last few weeks hence the appearance of the cords :

I only do about 4 to 5K miles a year now so be good to see how they last.

I'm in the habit of putting new tyres on the back and swapping the backs to the front. Avoids stepping on the inside edge and always means my rear end is grippier than the front.

The Defender is still on its original 23 year old tyres. I'll be replacing them this year I think.

The rear tyres are new (2017) Pirelli Cinturato P7 'blue' they've only done about 8K and still look new, actually that's what I did last time, the new ones went on the back and the old back's went on the front (are you still with me?) and the fronts got a hammering for 2 years.

In the end the front end felt really weird and I was getting concerned about something bursting through the tyre at speed, also wet performance* was comical to say the least

I've been caught out with a couple that were worse than that, so much so they went flat on the A14.

Us new age travelers reckon on swapping them after 6/7 years tops, meaning most never wear the tread down.
Fortunately the 'tiny' 225/75/R16C 118/116 examples on our van are only* about £600 a set.
Trouble is every time I crawl underneath to try and read the date codes on the inners I find something else to fix.
