Squeaky seats

Working through the minor faults on my 53 plate 406 HDi, i'm now on the seats.

They squeaked like a bitch when I moved my legs to operate the pedals, drove me nuts so I checked the bolts and they were all a bit loose, especially the two on the rear of the seat.

The front passenger seat was the same so I tightened them all up and all was silent. Felt wicked, for about two weeks until the driver seat started doing it again.

Is this a common thing or could a previous owner have been messing about with them?

If I find they are loose again, is there a way to do the job permanently, I thought about using spring washers?
I'm not sure if they screw straight into the floor or whether there is anything I can change to get them really tight.

I other thing. The plastic bits aroung the stereo creak badly when they expand from cold. Any way to stop this without replacing them?

I know i'm fussy but I do alot of miles and it drives me mad.

Thanks for any info

Mark

Try thread lock on the screws, I have a feeling they should have had this on them already.

You could try something like rubber and nylon lubricant on the plastic trim. I wishI could stop my door panels from creaking...

I'll try some locknut.

Dint know you could get nylon/rubber lubricant. Would you get that from Halfords or somewhere like that?

Not noticed the doors. Youve started me off again now. haha

My front seats squeek, BUT it's coming from the seat belt catches. very tiny movementsin there as the car moves causes a little squeek which I eventually found to be the seat belt catch.

I solved it by driving without the seat belts.

(only joking :P )

Actually I daren't squirt any lubrication down the catch in case something happens (pre tentioners, air bag etc) :|

If the seats are leather get some leather softner cream, leather seats need softened or they squeak or so the salesperson told me.
