Dash dials

Post by Ady1985 »

Would these dials fit and work in my 2000 hdi executive 406 estate?
Seen them and they have extra dial on and look really good too.

Good question.
here's a list of all of the different instrument clusters on the 406

I think the one you have pictured is one of the six in the group "GRADUATION MPH AND WITH CHROME DIAL SURROUNDS" for manual (BVM) gearboxes.

I think the trick in finding a replacement is getting one in the same RPO range as your original one.

Enabling the oil temperature gauge is fun :cheesy: Three places IIRC.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

On further inspection, it should be one of these:
6104 81 NFP - DIESEL FUEL AND OIL TEMP + LEVEL INDICATOR UNTIL RPO No. 09000
6104 ZA - DIESEL FUEL AND STANDARD SPEEDO UPPER GRADUATION AND OIL TEMP + LEVEL INDICATOR SINCE RPO No. 09001

RPO 9000 is 30th May 2001

So I reckon you've got at least a 50--50 chance :cheesy:

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

I changed my dials yesterday. I was in a local breakers yard looking for a few trims etc and fou d some clocks with white dials. My 2000hdi 110 has black dials. For the sake of £10 i thought id give them ago. Returned home removed my clocks and due to the clocks being from a 2003 the dials are led and only had 1 plug. Mine are bulbs and has 2 plugs. So i set aboit stripping the clocks down to be able to swap the backgrounds over. All went well and looks great. Only dissapointment is i couldnt use the red needles from the later clocks due to the shaft being a different diameter. But still looks good enough. I can add a picture if anyones interested and when i figure out how.

Sorry for poor pictures. Mileage didnt change and would look nicer with a chrome trim around the clocks.

Don't worry about the quality, it gives the general idea.

Could you have just painted the needles?

Yeah thats what im thinking of doing. Got a few bits to do to it.
New wheels
Remove and paint or find black dash trims to replace the wood.
Front splitter to fit
Coilovers
Im off to collect full leather and some bits next weekend.
