just to let people know
i sold my clocks out of my petrol car[d8 2ltr petrol] but today wanted to check the temp of the engine so as i had some d8 2.1 diesel clocks spare i d thought id give them a try and they work!
thought the temp gauge and fuel would but even the rev counter works even went down my private test track and the speedo works as well
only diffrence is that the rev counter is redlined a bit lower.
thought this might be usefull if you have a clock proplem.

Re: clocks petrol and diesel
Didn't realise nobody knew that one or I would have spoken up about it sooner. A friend had a D9 petrol GTX which had a problem with the clocks & the only ones he could get hold of were from a diesel Rapier, but they worked in his car so he stuck with them.

Your not alone Omega,
ialways Thought theyd clash or not work at all,
never tried it, tho on a Pergo,
tried adding clocks on a ford from a Derv to a petrol, and had problems speedo inacurate and it was showing other gremlins like the car was overheating on the Temp Guage,
Maybe puggy clocks are not as sensitive,
altho wouidnt the mph be out a Tad as petrol and derv clocks are calibrated diferntly - arnt they ?

dont think they would be as both cars run the same size wheels and tyres but had no way of checking this.lozz wrote:Your not alone Omega, thanks

Re: clocks petrol and diesel
I just changed mine for a set with fancy stainless steel dials i got off ebay they were off a 3.0l petrol and and my car is a 2.0l diesel all i had to do was move a couple of the bulbs in the back so the glow plug light would light up and bingo everything worked beautifully

Update
I had noticed a lack of power and was starting to think that the turbo was shot
but the new clocks were playing up at night with the lights on the bulbs were flickering which was annoying more than anything so I decided to see if it was loose bulbs or something else, it turned out to be the latter so i decided to strip down my original clocks and put the stainless dials in them. with this done no more flickering bulbs and something else the car now has its power back!
now I don't sugest for one moment that I understand why this might be the case but the only thing that i can sumise is that the clocks are linked to the car through the BSI whether this was because I put clocks from a petrol in a diesel I don't know. but I thought I would post this as it might help others out there.
