The volume knob in my D9 (i think im correct its an 2002 model) is flaking its as if some paint from it has come off, i have seen this problem before in a toyota avensis, but i did not own that car and therefore paid no attention to the issue, but in the 406 i have noticed the volume knob flaking, as is the grab handles on the back doors, i assume its some sort of special paint what is it called, or what can be done to repair it.

you need to open a PHOTOBUCKET account its very easy and free

upload the pictures to your photobucket account 1st, then when in photo bucket you can get the IMG link, just copy the link from photobucket and paste it into your reply on this forum ,

you will know what i mean with the IMG link when you see a pic in photobucket, you get 4 links, only use the IMG one 8)

I think photobucket will delete it as pics of itchy flaky knobs will violate their terms :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

To me this kind of wear would indicate high usage of the vehicle. Was it used as a taxi or other commercial use?

I think the only remedy would be new donor parts from new door cards and a new stereo :|

Ah, I see that all the time in the scrapyard. Tis the rubberised coating coming off.
The volume nob is piss easy to replace they just pull off and push on. Need a little encouragement mind you.

The door handles are the difficult bit. They are plastic welded to the door cars. If you are handy with tools it is possible to remove them from the door cards and attach replacements with bolts, washers and a couple of load plates on the inside of the door card to spread the load a little and allow for a tight fit.

I need to do this to mine; the leather exec door cars I bought appear quite shabby - well, the rear ones do anyway.

I am no good with tools though, other than a screwdriver. It's a bit irritating that the grab handles are plastic welded on, and not fixed in with torx screws like every other fixing on the door is.

Plus, I no longer have the original LX-spec cloth door cards, so I don't have the grab handles that don't have electric window switch holes cut in them any more :(

We need to arrange a 406 fixing day. You can pop down to my place for a cuppa and some TLC on your 6 :)

I can get the handles and I'm fairly ok with tools.

And theres only 92000 miles on my clock, its service history shows it was an ex peugeot fleet car so it must have been used a lot, but ill keep an eye out for these parts, i am handy enough with tools that doesnt sound like a big issue

I peeled the remaining covering off my volume button, so now it looks matt. Doesn't look too bad!

When it peels off mine it looks a bit like pound stretcher glossy cheap plastic not matte, would that plastidip do the job, at getting it back to original?
