I don't think anything changed between the D8 and D9 in relation to the fixings for the shelf.

Aren't the seat retaining bits different?

I was wondering that, Pug seems to have redesigned the shelf in the D8 a few times but the last one carries on into the D9. Still, I think that part of it is behind the seats so won't notice if it needs a little "persuasion"...

You mean the latches that hold the back of the seats? Quite possibly. I know the release for the D9 seats is via 2 red handles in the boot as opposed to the button on the seat backs.
However, from my experience of changing the shelf, it has nothing to do with how the shelf is fixed onto the bulkhead.

Aye, but considering he said he wanted the blind for his kids, I don't think he'd be too happy if the seats end up needing to be held in the upright position by a bit of string

Kids?
That's what Halfords sell roofboxes for

How will the blind affect how the seat backs are held up?
The shelf has no influence on the mechanical operation of the seat release catches.
You do realise we're talking about the material insert/dressing, not the actual metal bulkhead, right?

Hmm I was under the impression that the centre of the shelf formed part of the seat latching mechanism on (d8/d9s - can't remember)s...

What Gary406 has bought is a bit of cabin dressing. It has no structural value.
The gubbins and all for the rear shelf are underneath the metal bulkhead. The Shelf dressing with blind, speaker covers and storage unit sits on top of this. The only part it plays with any operational bits is the slots for the seat belts. These are universal throughout the D8 and D9 range.

The shelf (cover) seems to have had a few changes in the D8 but the last one carries on into the '9s

the D9 shelf with built in blind and storage fit straight into my 1998 D8,
the shelf itself sits a lot higher than the D8 one did .
i will try and get 2 of the clips that sit in the roof lining to hold up the built in blind,
if i cant get 2 clips i will just punch 2 small holes in the roof lining and use them, (wont see it up there)
thanks all for replys

Cheers. I've never really looked too hard around that area on the saloon...

Wouldn't expect you to, what with you driving an estate.
