Pad wear light

For some time now I've had the pad wear indicator light on the dash come on every time I press the brake pedal. At first I thought it was pads and got a new set but when I removed the supposedly worn pads they were only half worn at most. Still, I fitted the new pads but the light still comes on. New pads were fitted a few months back and the wires were fitted into the connectors OK.
Fluid level is good. So what else can it be?
Thanks
Andy

I've seen this happen if the pad wear sensor wiring is damaged.
Also possible to have a faintly lit pad wear W/L if cable sheathing is damaged and it gets wet.

I'll pull the wheels off and have a look at the wiring, clean everything off and check with a meter.
Funny thing is the light comes on even if the car is stationary, although engine vibration may be enough if it's a broken wire but if so I'd expect the light to come on regardless of whether the brake pedal is pressed or not.
Whilst driving the light never illuminates, only if pedal is pressed, even a little bit.

It seems the circuit is only live when the brake pedal is depressed.

Thanks Steve. I was wondering if that was the case but no longer have access to the diagrams. :(

I'm surprised you still have them. don't think any of mine did. the wiring to them is very thin and brittle and thin and breaks very easily. Does not the handbrake use the same light?

I thought the same thing Peter, but I'm sure the handbrake light is a red square with a P, the pad wear is an orange circle with dots where the pads sit...

Otherwise I would have suggested it's the handbrake switch playing up.

My memory is failing fast but I just had an idea that it was the same light - I'm sure someone will tell us.

I honestly can't remember but I do remember Welly going mental with his handbrake on his D9 so... maybe. It's the same type of switch as the glovebox light btw.

The pad wear light is the orange light, the red light is for handbrake and brake fluid level if I remember correctly. I had an issue with the red light which was due to a faulty switch on the handbrake, can't remember the actual symptoms but replacing the switch solved it.
Not sorted my orange warning light yet, been busy painting the house.
