for a few months now ive had a slight knocking from my front suspension so bought a pair of drop links as it sounded like em. jacked front up today and levered under tyres but both links were fine!! i did notice that the top of both front struts were knocking where they bolt to the arch. does that sound like the bearings ive read about on here or summert else? the manual doesnt mention bearings so will i need to change the whole strut?

I did replace the strut top bearings on one of mine but that's because they were seizing up rather than knocking. The only other knocks I have had are from a track rod end or the bottom ball joint.

all other joints are ok. with the wheel off today i levered the hub up and down and you can hear it knocking at the top of the strut near where it bolts to the arch. you cant see any movement, just feel and hear it. can you get to the bearings through the top in the engine bay or do you need the strut out?

You need to remove the strut.

Hi there,

Have a look at your struts and springs also to make sure a spring has not broke or strut blown.
406 springs are very long and can often break without the driver even knowing.
As you are changing top mounts you will have these all disassembled anyways 👍
