New acquisition

Post by Dieselderv »

Hi all I'm David and have just picked up a 2003 406 hdi estate unfortunately it's the 90bhp so woefully slow but hey ho..brought from a dealer as a part exchange ,,dented passenger doors a cambelt that is roughly 21,000 miles overdue (changing it now) and a very wobbly rear wheel..I was hoping the rear wheel was going to be a loose 40mm nut but it doesn't look like it..I took the dust cap off and can see the ball bearings and grease,is that normal..I thought they were closed bearing..anyway the hub looks brand new..so unsure what's going on there until I get a 40mm socket..never heard of a 406 bearing going..it's on 96,000 miles the service indicator says service overdue 37,546 miles lol..it has been a dog car and looks like it hasn't been cleaned in or out since the second and last owner brought it in 2007...but believe it or not the aircon is ice cold and the info display only has one line missing..airbag light came on when I moved the seat..hoping to take delivery of the belt water pump and tensioners Friday as long as the other expected delivery doesn't happen early (baby no2) will probebly pick your brains about stuff in the coming months and as the wife has a 2002 hdi 110bhp saloon on 214,000 I may be able to help others on some things..had many pug 306 to with up wound pumps over the years but never a hdi..

Hi, welcome - your car sounds like my first 406 that had dogs living in it for 8 years :(
I believe the rear hub nut is 41mm - I had to use a 42mm and a washer.
Well done in finding an excellent display screen - a hen's tooth indeed.
The 90 is an okay car round town, just a bit slow when you are used to a 110, but a cheap remap from somewhere like Hdi tuning will give it a better pace.
Best of luck with it.

As Ginger say's Welcome to the madhouse

I've had mine for over five years now great car but has it's quirks, as said a 90 can be easily got up to 125bhp
Cheaply and 160bhp for a few quid more & as a 90 as stock was unstressed for the first 90k

I thought the 90's had the type B display which gives no problems it's only the sat nav one no
Which is executive's & SE's

Anyhow welcome on in & ask away :cheesy:

As a 2003 - it's a parts bin roulette model :cheesy:
My original 2002 model was a GLX with a satnav screen - I used it in all my successive 406s :supafrisk:
