Jumped in the old girl tonight after work, drove across the car park put my foot on the brakes
W.T.F rock hard brake pedal & no brakes  , managed to get her to stop ( luckily I wasn't going very fast)
Pressed the brake pedal really hard & it worked
Pumped them a few time's before driving home very gingerly :?
I have no faith in them now, Anyone got any ideas / heard of this before

All advice appreciated, many thanks DDD.

Same problem as this one?
Or would have except the pedal didn't move! Luckily I was going slowly and the handbrake managed to bring it to a halt. Moved off, very slowly and applied brakes again, pedal went down but I could feel it grinding a bit through the pedal. Managed to limp it home through the quiet backstreets and have left it there since, it was just downright bloody dangerous!

Yes sounds as though have no vacuum, the brakes aren't very good without it  Either the vacuum pump as mentioned or the brake servo or a vacuum leak somewhere. If its an Hdi there won't be much turbo boost either, just changed mine for that reason and it improved the brakes as well. Check the solenoids on the bulkhead behind the top of the engine for leaking rubber pipes.

Think the servo non return valve has gone on my HDI 90 as well.

These parts are hard to track down online or am I searching for the wrong thing?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? If someone has the p/n for a servo check valve for a 2002 HDI 90 that would be grand.

Looks like
4599 31 BRAKE AMPLIFIER KIT
BOSCH. -
- EXCEPT EW10D INJECTION
vacuum valve.jpg
Not sure if this is right but it's where I'd expect to find it...

Was that the part that fixed the issue on yours in the end?

It was this time round for me but it can also be the servo it's self and or the vacuum pump.
I just went for this first as it's the easiest and cheapest. :)

Failure of the vacuum pump will affect the turbo boost as well, so if yours goes OK it will be a servo fault.

Well the garage diagnosed mine as a servo issue, so they're doing it today. ;)
