Max tire size on 17" 8J ET15 rim

Post by Joery »

Dear People,

I'm new on this forum and own a 406 break 2.0 16V since a few months.

I'm from the Netherlands so please excuse me from my bad english sometimes.

I love the car, It runs very smooth but the only thing that bothers me is that the tire size is small compared to the size of the car (195 65 15)
I'm planning to buy new rims :

Now I wonder what the max tire size is that can fit without rubbing to the fenders.

I hope to be able to fit 235 50 17 tires, I think it wil look great.

Greetz,

Joery

PS, I understand that with bigger tires the speedometer will give the wrong value, thats ok with me

Hi, welcome to the club.

Don't worry about your English writing, it'd better than some of the English people here... :cheesy:

There is a web site I use called www.willtheyfit.com which tells you the difference between your current tyres and the tyres you want to fit.

I think you will be okay with a 215/50/17 which is a common size for more modern cars, and your speedometer will not only be a little bit wrong.

As for the 235 width, it's big.. I have 225 on my T4 and they look huge on it, and it makes the van follow the ridges in the road - I would stick with 215 on your 406, purely as otherwise the car handless funny.

Hi,
I have 7"x16" coupe starfish alloys on mine the standard tyre size on the coupe is 225 & these just kiss the plastic
liner on full lock, so yes 235 would be fine on 8" alloys, but I would advise sticking to 225 unless you have a slightly
greater offset.
