Hi all,
Fitted a new clutch kit & dmf over the weekend, pig of a job but well chuffed with the results.
Just one or two glaring problems
1. To get the box out I had to lower the subframe slightly, about 40mm at the front & 10mm at the back
Now probably stupidly I didn't loosen the rack or column
Upon finishing the job & going for a road test I found the steering to be a bit tight / heavy & not quite self centring.
Any ideas, bent column / damage to the rack
2. Powerflex rear / lower stabiliser bush, DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!
On a derv anyway, it vibrates like a Motherfxxker on idle, might be great in a chaved up 306 with a drain pipe exhaust
But on my family estate bus used to tow our caravan not so great
So guess what I'm doing next weekend
heavy steering

Re: heavy steering
I've done lots of these and always lowered the subframe without touching the rack and never had an issue.
I would run it a bit longer and see how it goes.

Re: heavy steering
Thanks for the imput jasper,
I am not imagining it, it's definitely stiffer & not self centring.
I have studied some diagrams of the rack & column assembly & I am convinced that I have damaged the lower UJ that
connects the column to the rack.
Maybe I was unlucky & didn't have it in the correct orientation when I lowered the subframe & you did every time without knowing.
I don't know if this is right but what I do know is mine is damaged some where & that looks like the culprit
