steering not self centering

Post by mark1961 »

hi, ive just found and joined this forum and looking for some advice, I have a 406 110 hdi estate, previously having the 110 saloon and early 1.9 estate, I love my car however it has developed a tendency recently to not self centre when turning left or right fluid level is fine tyres good and no nasty noises so I'm a bit stumped as to what it might possibly be, any pointers would be greatly appreciated
thank you

Hi Mark, welcome to the club.

You've checked the obvious things but next on the list would be the strut top bearing.... 8)

They can wear out, which puts extra stress on the front spring which 'may' snap one day ( normally only at low speeds ) so its worth getting checked.

Hi Mark & welcome aboard. 8)

As GM says, strut top bearings are likely to be the cause. If you can get both front wheels off the ground, you should be able to hear something from wherever it's sticking.

Hi, if you send me your VIN number I can check to see if your car has variable power steering or not. 8)
