Which rear springs for 406 V6 Saloon LPG?

Post by MikeBX16V »

Hi all,

I have an LPG tank in my 406 (aftermarket fit), and the rear suspension always looks a bit low, plus ground clearance is not ideal for my slopey driveway.

Do LPG fitted 406s have different rear springs? Or are estate rear springs suitable to compensate for the extra weight?

(I fancy replacing the springs to precaution against them snapping anyway)

thanks,

Mike

LPG 406s did have different springs but they only seem to be EW7J4, normal versions of which have a different spring to the V6, so I can't just look across and see what springs you need I'm afraid.

Estate springs are different all the way across, I suspect they'll raise your rear but I couldn't say for sure.

Umm, would it be easier to, err, lower the front? :supafrisk:

Thanks..

Front height is fine, and I don't want it lower.

What cars are the EW7J4 fitted to is that the 1.8? If the rear springs are special to the LPG car, they may be suitable.

Are the front springs different too?

Do you know if the v6 estate has different springs from the v6 saloon? Then perhaps all I need is v6 estate rear springs. easy.

Yep, it's a 1.8. My god, there are about 406 different front springs but yes, the lpg is again different.

Estate, or there's heavy duty (but I think you'll only get those from Pug). I dunno, maybe estate springs would be ok, maybe they wouldn't. Must be a way of working it out, using the weight of the rear, ride height you've got, height you want. Maybe an after-market spring manufacturer could help you figure something out.

The towbar and gas tank on my car add about 50kg extra weight to the rear of the car.

The estate is 50kg heavier than the saloon, for the same engine type.

This extra weight must be at the back of the car, so this suggests that estate springs are a good choice for me and should return the car to normal ride height and spring rates.

Does anyone know the part numbers for 2002 V6 saloon springs, front and rear and V6 Estate springs front and rear?

Are the shocks the same across the whole 406 range?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

That sounds a possible. You can look this stuff up on service box you know

Front springs of saloon and estate are the same part numbers, the only difference is if it's automatic or manual.
5002 V6 - INJECTION ES9J4 AND BVA4 REP 1 GREY + 1 RED
- INJECTION ES9J4S AND BVA4 REP 1 GREY + 1 RED
5002 V7 - INJECTION ES9J4 AND BVM REP 1 GREEN + 1 BLUE
- INJECTION ES9J4S AND BVM REP 1 GREEN + 1 BLUE

Shockers, there are 2 for normal set ups, one for 1.6 & 1.8 and another for everything bigger (so I'll only put the bigger shocks here)
Normal front
Left 5202X8
Right 5202X9
Variable
Left 5202AQ
Right 5202AR
but saloon and estate are again the same.

Rear springs...
Saloon -
5102 C5 - INJECTION EW12J4 REP 2 BLUE (there's a surprise)
- INJECTION ES9J4 REP 2 BLUE
- INJECTION ES9J4S REP 2 BLUE

Estate-
5102 E3 - INJECTION EW12J4 MARK 3 BLUE
- INJECTION ES9J4 MARK 3 BLUE
- INJECTION ES9J4S MARK 3 BLUE

Rear shocks - normals are the same deal as the front, 2 sets, one for smaller engines, one for bigger
Saloon Normal 5206S2
Estate normal 5206R9

Both variable 5206F2

I hope that's useful. Hopefully you'll be able to work the colour codes out if you need to.

I wonder why front shocks are Left & Right handed and the rear are not.

Anyways, many thanks for that info, Mr Earwig.

No worries, hope it sorts you out.

I think the shock is more than just an insert and it has the mountings for the ARB, as well as the spring seat.
