abs pump

Post by mattyg »

Hi guys
the mother in law asked me to go for a drive in her 406 2.0 petrol the other night to have a feel of the brakes as it was making a crunching sound. A quick spin revealed the abs seems to be coming on even when you brake slightly. She has took it to a 'garage' only to be told the pumps 1000 pounds and the cars not worth fixing. Pumps are on ebay for between 10 quid and 50 quid what sort of job is it to code it to the car presuming i can get one the same part number. What will i pay for the software and is the car driveable with tbe new pump fitted and not coded. Im presuming just the abs wont work?. Thanks matt

That could be a reluctor issue, I'd check them before condemning the "pump".
