Not 406 related, my C5 2.0hdi vtr.

I've noticed a strange vibration while travelling at speeds of about 60mph it don't seem to be coming through the steering wheel It's the whole car... It came clearer to me Thursday night taking my daughter to a gig she was practising singing and her voice seemed very jumpy so I mentioned it to my wife and mam who were with us and they said it seems through the seats... WTF?

One thing I've noticed is that someone has put the wrong size tyres on the front there should be 215/ 16's on there but they're 205/16's
There is no real reason for this other than someone maybe picking up two cheap tyres right?

That was my first plan I was going to do it today but ran out of daylight... Will do it first thing tomorrow.

I'd get the back wheels off the ground and spin them by hand.....then watch them like a Hawk. I had a car with a flat spot on the rear tyre where I think the car had been stood a while on a flat tyre, it gave the same feeling of vibration.

As a rule of thumb: steering vibration is the fronts, vibration from underneath or through the seats is the rears.

Same thing on my Coupe when I bought it (except on the rear). Pirellis in 205 are about £75, in 215 are about £130!

Swapped all 4 for Avon ZV5s in the proper size in the end.

That's what I'm worried about, the rear tyres are the correct size and have the better tread... If any I'd prefer to be replacing the fronts.

At silly prices like that it would have to be budgets for me.

+1 on the 215 being silly prices!
As I'm running coupe wheels on my saloon it came with 215's, when it came time to replace I had a word with the tyre place and I had the option of 205, 215 or 225 on my wheels. Had a look at the prices and guess what was fitted, changed all four for 205's and never had a problem in 4 years.

The main trouble with 215's is they aren't particularly common so you tend to pay over the odds as budget manufacturers don't tend to bother and part worns are rare as rocking horse poo.
205's are the standard fare for lots of rep-mobiles so the choice and availablity are excellent which makes the pricing more competitive.

I think it's generally acceptable to have different sizes on as long as it's the same axle but I personally wouldn't do it for very long.

Wheels swapped over I've now got a nice shake in the steering wheel... Feels like balancing to me but is it something more sinister.....

The tyre fitter should pick that up when i take it to be balanced shouldn't he? I went to see him earlier but he was real busy so I'll go see him in the morning and explain the score..... If he says I need a tyre should I just get 2x 205's put on that axel and be done with it?.... If I'm to stick with the proper size then i'll need 4x 215's.

Tyre guy should pick it up.

Best ask the tyre guy about sizes.

I had budget tyres. They were completely f*cked after 10 months so now I have a set of part-worn premium tyres.
Just saying...

Yeah I'd go Part-worn when on a tight budget and stuck needing tyres at short notice. I'd try and use the correct size as listed in the car's handbook to avoid any Insurance issues.
