mfd brake warning

have 2002 3 litre coupe and MFD is showing on starting "brake system defective". Brakes are fine,no ABS light,reservoir full,so am perplexed.Help please!!

Does the red brake symbol on the dash illuminate at the same time? This is a common occurrence and is cured by replacing the cheap n nasty switch under the handbrake lever, believe it or not.
The switch used in the glovebox for it's internal lighting is exactly the same, so you could try that as a no cost option to see if it cures your problem first.

Thanks for the help problem now intermittent of course!! is the switch easilly accessible??

The centre console has to lifted up to get access to it. It's not too drastic!
Two M6 bolts at the rear, two M6 nuts and two T20 torx screws under the ashtray, take out the switch bank and disconnect all the connectors, pop out the handbrake trim.

Are you registered on the Coupe forum?
