p6000 tyres ?

Post by johntl »

need your opinion, have I made a mistake???
just got some part worn P6000 powergy tyres 195/65/15 for my 406, so I looked at some reviews and opinion was basically bad , ranging from ditchfinders to poor wet grip, they are rated A for economy, A for grip
Has anybody had any experiece of these tyres??

Yep, had them on the rears of my old saloon. Terrible tyres - ditchfinder is about right! Sorry :(

I think they are okay tyres, they just don't seem to perform like they should on a 406.........

I put some part worn ' Autogrip ' on my 406, at the front - massive mistake as understeer a plenty and never really had confidence in the wet. They stopped the car well, just not good going round corners. I put them on the back instead where I am happy with their performance. 8)

I'm not sure how you can go about having the tyres swapped again for something else, there must be some sort of guarantee or satisfaction warranty..??

I have had two friend fit them, and both had them removed after a couple of hundred miles. This was last year when we had all the rain toward the end of 'summer'.

Used several sets of P6000s on my 406 as that's what was fitted at the factory, I found them very good and never had a problem. I like them. :?

One thing you can be sure of - the British summer will let you test them in the wet pretty damn soon.

Amazingly, in over 40 years of driving and approaching a million miles, I've never had Pirellis, (or Avons), on any of my cars.

I think in general if you drive to the weather and road conditions and don't push when it's not safe to do so then pretty much any tyre will do. I've experienced aqua planning/ice/wet leaves/diesel spills etc with premium tyres and budgets and had the same 'oh sh*t' sensation every time.

I own a modified 2.2 but regardless of the name on the rubber I wouldn't throw it into the twisty stuff unless it's dry and I've got a bloody good idea of what's around the corner. Lost count of the times I've gone round the blind bend at the bottom of my road to find someone in my lane who thinks his premium tyres/brakes/uber handling motor makes them bullet proof. They all get the same 2 fingered salute from me
If I can see a gap I use the extra horses but if I can't I don't .... simples

IIRC there is a book they usually give to learner drivers that says in the wet slow down and leave a bigger gap to the car in front...what's it called again????

Not wanting to get the soap box out and I'm as guilty as most for ignoring speed limits but if we all obeyed the rules there would be virtually no RTA's, blaming the rubber is just an excuse for bad driving.

The problem with P6000's was that under diagonal force they would let go unpredictably or 'slip' a bit. This would be in situations like a wet roundabout or a bend with negative camber. They're not a bad tyre as such it's just this unpredictable weakness lets them down, like gumby said though I drive like an old giffer in the wet through my experience of various issues over the years.

I wish drivers in moderns would drive a 'proper' car with no DSTC/EBA/EBD/KNOB so they could feel what's actually going on with the tyres.

FWIW, I put Rain Experts on my DT, and they were very good. I was pleased with the grip both in wet and dry conditions. I only did about 1500 miles on them before the car went, but the indications were that the wear rate was OK too.

tried the tyres, as you say in the wet, which has only been a few times you can feel them sliding!
I've got some very grippy goodyear M&s tyres on the rear so I'am going to swap them to the front and put the p6000 on the rear and I will what that feels like!!!!
