Can I replace my standard 15" alloys on my 110 hdi with 17" ones with 45 profile tyres without modifying suspension / arches?

Yes no problem, just as long as you don't go over 8" wide & use the correct off set ect.
4 x 108 PCD & 12mm offset I.I.R.C, 15mm off set is fine any more than 20mm & you'll need spacers
Std is 195/60/15 or 205/60/15 you can go for 205/50/17 or 215/45/17 the former will give a slightly bigger rolling radius but not so much that you'll notice
I think that the later gives the closest to std rolling radius
Hope this helps DDD.

Depends what size rim's your running, my std wheels are 6x15 with 205/60/15, you can run 195/60/15 quite happily.
I'm going for 3.0 V6 coupe starfish alloys on mine 7x16 with 205/55/16 tyres for the same reason, I'm going for Toyo proxes CF2. Set of four £256 fully fitted
I wanted 7x17 with 205/50/17 but at over £700 for the wheels & tyres it ant gonna happen

Check this guide out - it will give you the overall diameter of the tyre and rim you choose.

Pug 307 had 205/50/17 on them but this is slightly bigger than original 15" - 205/45/17 works out slightly smaller than the original 15"
195/50/17 or 215/45/17 is as close to standard 15" as you can get.

Yer like DDD said, the main thing to look out for is the width/placement of the wheel, if you are going wider, you have to decrease your offset.
I run 17X8" wheels with 15p offset on 215/45/17 tyres. This IMO is a seriously good size setup, very good for handling and looks the part.
I was thinking of running 18X9 or 17X9 wheels but I would have to be on about 5p offset or less.
If you car isn't lowered and the law allows it, try go for the lowest offset possible.

No spacers required here either. Like I said earlier its ALL about the offset
