NSR rear slider freed off, but no way would that have been possible with the caliper ON the car....

Big Vice was needed !

Pleased to report that my 20 year old Gunsons Easy Bleed worked a treat  8) 8)

Thanks for all the help & advice on here.

I'll be doing my handbrake cables at the weekend and my backplates are a bit ropey so I was wondering how you did yours DDD?

If you want to remove the backplates you need to remove the hub/bearing first, so unless your hubs are shot I would try to fix them in situ.... 8)

I suspected as much, clean up and paint on the car it is then!

Just had a look on Halfords web site for some caliper paint - red, blue or yellow - WTF is wrong with black? we're not all 17 years old

I got my Kawasaki Green from eBay, but there are many colours available in both brush on or air-arsehole.

Is this oneupmanship for bits of the car that can't be seen anyway?

If I ever change my backing plates I'm going for C/F effect hydrographic printing

Now there's an idea! swanky carbon fibre wrap would dazzle the MoT inspector so much he wouldn't notice anything

On the other hand when I checked service box and found replacement back plates require a small mortgage I thought some wire brushing and a £10 pot of paint was the way to go.

gumby,
Sorry for the late reply I had computer probs  , anyhow as ginger said clean up as best you can & paint in situ.
If it help's mine were a mess, I wire brushed them with the electric dill & used Dinatroll rust treatment RC800 then fibre glass to repair the holes & trusty black smoothrite for the finishing coat :cheesy: .
ps I have used smoothrite on calipers with great success & no problems, so you could try some of that in black  .
All the best bud DDD.

New handbrake cable purchased, dug through shed and found brush attachments for my drill just need the paint now.
My backplates only have surface rust as far as I can tell so I won't need any filler, just brush, treat the rust and paint.

The calipers will probably just get a wire brush as it's not the looks I'm bothered about just the corrosion.
