Having a bit of bother with the 406 and not had time to look at it yet. When manouvering such as parking where you use full lock on the steering, there is a loud metallic knock. It isn't rotational but sounds quite heavy, does andone have any idea?

i have similar sound when im driving and passing on some holes, but i think that the main reason for this is the fact im lowered.

If it's happening only on full lock, and it isn't rotational, then I would worry that the top mount bearings are on their way out. A common problem on these cars. If the bearing is seized then the spring gets twisted as you turn the wheel and can jump in its cup. If this is the case, you have a very real risk of snapping a spring, get it seen to before this happens then all you have to replace are the bearings. If you are replacing a spring then you should really be replacing both sides, and if you replace a spring then you will also need wheel alignment, so the whole job becomes a lot more expensive. On top of that a spring can damage other items when it snaps, like brake pipes and even the tyre.

You were exactly right. The top mount was siezed partially and the top 3rd of the spring had snapped off and got twisted with the rest. Replacement strut assembly of eBay for £30 has got me sorted :)
