Noticed while looking at my car the other day that there is bigger gap between the front tyre and arch compared to the rear. Walking down the road from work I noticed not every car I saw parked up is like this, some its the other way round. May sound daft but why is that?

always wondered that with my previous d8 . my new d8 isnt like this its same all round.

have u had new springs fitted recently ?

My D8 and D9 was exactley the same!
Massive arch gap at the front and they both looked lowered at the back



If you look though the car is always level, so maybe it's designed like that?
But also lowering brings usually come in different heights, i.e. 40 front 30 back etc.

Mine too seems a little bit lower at the back than at the front, it has done no towing and the suspensions are original.

I guess it's either a "feature" or an age-related thing.

Me tend to think its specific towards diesel 406s where front suspension / coil is stiffer than rear. Rear must be same for diesel and petrol.

Mine looks lowered on the front than rear and a friend has a 405 and also a 406 diesel. Both looks extra elevated on the front than rear.

Riding height is measured, usually in inches, from the rocker panel to the ground. Good wheel alignment charts provide specs, but the main thing is that the measurements should be within one inch from side to side and front to rear. Riding height is not adjustable except on vehicles with torsion bar type springs. The best way to fix this problem is to replace the springs (Note: springs should only be replaced in matched pairs). Changes in riding height will affect camber and toe so if springs are replaced or torsion bars are adjusted, then the wheel alignment must be checked to avoid the possibility of tire wear. It is important to note that the only symptom of weak coil springs is a sag in the riding height. If the riding height is good, then the springs are good.

When I had my 406 was tracked using 4 wheel laser alignment, front ride height was set at 144mm and rear at 166mm

Yup arches are on different heights. However, noticed mar car is slightly lower on the front. Must be something to do with execs??

Naa, I reckon they might be the original ones. No paperwork from the last 10 years to show they've been changed!
